Teacher Supply Bus Supports Greater Clark Education

Greater Clark County schools in Southern IN for the school year of 2021-2022 launched its Teacher Supply Bus to provide school supplies to teachers.  The executive Director of the Greater Clark Educational Foundation asked teachers about what their needs were in regards 
to supplies (McAfee, 2021). Each teacher can shop the bus once per school year and can fill up a bag with up to 25 supplies. Many teachers needed supplies like pencils, and dry erase markers to help provide students in their education.  The bus tours in the fall and spring on Fridays.

The bus was donated by the district with Amazon as the sponsoring program.  The bus is decorated by Lotus Sign & Design in Charlestown, IN (McAfee, 2021).  Since this is a community project, local businesses have done supply drives and plans to involve Greater Clark students as well in this program. 

One third grade teacher asserts that she spends about $300 a year for school supplies in her classroom (McAfee, 2021). She knows getting school supplies can be a struggle for some students or their parents, so the Teacher Supply Bus can help in her classroom for extra supplies.  One special education teacher added a bag filled with toys while shopping in the Teacher Supply Bus. Toys are great for students who like to keep their hands moving.  Many times however, these types of items such as toys, are not on the school supply bus.  The teacher compensates by purchasing these objects out of pocket, but also stocks up on pencils and dry erase markers.  She asserts that she spends at least $200 or $300 for supplies for a small caseload.  Another teacher asserts that she spends approximately $500 to $600 a year to supply her classroom.  Many teachers feel the supply bus is helpful and is a huge project for teachers and students.  

Greater Clark County IN (IN.gov, 2021) includes the cities of Jeffersonville, Clarksville, Charlestown, Sellersburg, and Henryville.
